She collects, develops, and writes these stories based on her years of exploration and learning in places as diverse as the Lacandon Selva in southern Mexico, the rainforest on the South Island of New Zealand, the Great Basin Desert in eastern California and the streets of Washington, DC.

As a Retreat Guide:  Jane provides nature-based retreats to assist people with the questions and decisions of major life transitions - births & deaths, aging, relationships, recovery, career change, retirement, etc. She has trained extensively with Meredith Little and the late Steven Foster at the School of Lost Borders in California. She has co-lead groups with Buddhist teacher and anthropologist, Joan Halifax, as well as leading groups all  over the United States for more than 30 years.

As an Author

As an author: Jane co-authored with Nancy Geha, Ed.D., Women & Middlehood: Halfway Up the Mountain, Balboa Press, 2013. Women & Middlehood is an exploration and celebration of how women journey through the middle years of their lives. These years are a rich and challenging time of life, full of contradictory feelings brought on by growing strengths and the waning of familiar ways of life. It draws upon one of the most powerful methods that women often use for negotiating change in our lives: we talk to other women. Each of us has a wealth of experience, and when that is joined with the experiences of other women, we create a veritable well of wisdom for ourselves and others. In that spirit, many women contributed stories, experiences and insights to this book.

"I love the way you reframe "middle age" to "middlehood." And also encourage women to tell themselves a new, empowering story. As you say, not a fairy tale - but a truly empowering new story full of possibilities...Bravo. Well done!!"

Christiane Northrup, MD

In addition to the book, Jane has also published short stories and articles. (See PUBLISHED WORKS for a list.)
